Liver Channel (Foot-Jueyin)
Course:
The surface pathway of the Liver Channel starts at the lateral corner of the nail of the big toe. It traverses over the
dorsum of the foot between the first and second metacarpal bones and ascends along the medial aspect of the lower
leg to SP 06. From here it continues to ascend along the medial aspect of the leg and traverses the medial edge of the
popliteal fossa. It further ascends along the posterior septum of the sartorius muscle, the medial thigh, and up to LR
12 in the groin.
From LR 12 an internal branch passes over SP 12 and SP 13, surrounds the external genitalia, and meets the
Conception Vessel. At CV 2, it follows the course of the Conception Vessel up to CV 04 and passes over the abdomen
to LR 13 and to the end of the 11th rib at the lateral aspect of the thorax.
An internal branch of the Liver Channel enters the abdomen at LR 13, traverses the stomach and reaches the Liver.
From the liver it ascends through the diaphragm and ascends to the Lungs and down to the Gallbladder. From the
gallbladder it joins LR 14. From LR 14 it traverses the diaphragm and ascends the posterior aspect of the throat to the
nasopharynx and continues to ascend to the head to meet the eyes, emerges again and crosses the forehead to meet
LG 20, where it enters the brain. From the tissue around the eyes, an additional branch descends the cheeks and
enters the mouth cavity to the inner surface of the lips.
From LR 13 the surface branch ascends to LR 14, in the sixth intercostal space on the mamillar line, and terminates
there.
