Gallbladder Channel (Foot-Shaoyang)
Course:
The surface pathway of the Gallbladder Channel starts at the outer canthus of the eye at GB 01, runs to the ear and
continues from there in a triple zigzag line over the side of the head to GB 20, at the posterior aspect of the occipital
bone. From GB 20 it traverses the shoulder, along the anterior aspect of the trapezius muscle to GB 21.
From GB 21, a branch traverses the shoulder to intersect with GV 14. This branch passes SI 12 and traverses across
the shoulder to ST 12 in the supraclavicular fossa. A branch from ST 12 descends, enters into the thorax, crosses the
diaphragm and connects with the Liver before joining the Gallbladder. It descends through the abdomen down to the
groin and traverses the buttocks, where it reunites with the surface branch at GB 30.
The surface branch descends from ST 12 to GB 22, in the fourth intercostal space and then downward to the free end
of the 12th rib. Then it surrounds the anterior, superior aspect of the iliac spine and traverses the hip to reach the
buttocks at GB 30. From there it follows the course of the iliotibial tract along the lateral thigh and reaches GB 34 at
the head of the fibula. The surface branch of the Gallbladder Channel continues to descend along the fibula to the
lateral malleolus. It passes over the dorsum of the foot, between the fourth and fifth metatarsal bone, and terminates
at the lateral corner of the nail of the fourth toe.
